Aged Care, IT and Start-ups
Nov 02, 2020
Join us to hear our special guest speaker Ali Galadari be interviewed by our President Dan Adler. Ali Galadari (originally from Dubai) is an entrepreneur and investor. During his Master’s studies in Brisbane, he joined Conpago, a tech start up that focuses on communication in the aged care sector. Ali's passion for aged care comes from personal experience with his own grand parent's after a traumatic experience. Through Ali's start-up journey, he immersed himself with the Queensland ecosystem: volunteering with the University of Queensland’s Ventures Program, and the Burnie Brae community centre. He’s also working on impact ventures between his beloved homes of Brisbane and Dubai, across medical, healthcare, and aviation technologies. This will be a very inspiring and interesting speech, certainly one not to miss! If you would like to attend as our guest to participate in the discussion with Ali, please private message our President Dan Adler so we can cater for numbers. We look forward to seeing you there! |

In addition to philanthropy, the Rotary Club of Brisbane also boasts opportunities for fun and fellowship. We had our first social event of the year at the Newstead Brewery and it was great to see all those that were able to attend! Our next social event will be a similar event at the Soapbox Beer Brewbar on Friday, November 6th at 5:30PM. Members, guests and friends of the club are all welcome! This event provides an excellent opportunity for prospective members and friends of the club to meet current members and learn about Rotary in a less formal setting! And for existing members, this is an excellent opportunity to bond with other members of the club, without the formality of a Monday meeting. There are more details to come, however you will need to register your attendance for the event via ClubRunner in order to attend. Please RSVP (via registering) by 5pm Thursday (5th of November). If you are unable to RSVP manually, please email Nicholas Bailey (nickbailey1998@gmail.com) to register. |

My Polio Story
Nov 16, 2020 12:30 PM
My name is Suzanne MacKenzie. I contracted polio at age 2 in 1948 followed by 2 years in a Crippled Children’s Home in Auckland, NZ. I had many operations to alleviate the effects of polio on my right leg and wore a calliper until age 13 Despite my career choices being limited I had interesting and varied career roles, initially as a teacher and then into sales rising to television station Manager and finally to setting up and operating 2 retail stores. Over past 5yrs I have taken an active role in Polio Australia, speaking to many Rotary Clubs (approx. 20) and holding functions including Walk With Me (2), raising much needed funds ($50,000) and raising awareness of the needs of Post Polio people In 2014 I was appointed to the Board of Polio Australia. In this role I helped initiate funding from Spinal Life Australia. In 2017 I became a member of the Rotary Club of New Farm and am now a Board member. In 2018 I organised successful fund raising for the Rotary Club of New Farm to support local charities including Polio Australia. In 2018 I have joined the District 9600 Rotary Foundation Polio Committee, helping to raise funds for Rotary International ‘End Polio Now’ program and to maintain and broaden Rotary International connection to Polio Australia. Prior to joining Polio Australia I had:
