MONDAY CLUB MEETING: Charity Donation Workshop
Mar 16, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

Join us in person, or via Zoom video to participate in a discussion on how we as a Club should split up our Public Ancillary Fund Charity Donations before the end of financial year 30 June, as per our legal requirements. We will showcase what we have donated in previous years, and who in the past has benefited from receiving the money.

We hope this workshop will inspire healthy debate and fresh thinking on who should receive our future donations. These will be timely conversations prior to our upcoming Board meetings where we will vote on the distribution of funds.

We absolutely DO NOT want to lazily write cheques and never see the benefit of our PAF's hard work. We absolutely DO want to follow where the money goes and report back in the near future to our Club Members on how these donations have helped the local and global communities. Let's choose how we can make the world a better place to live for future generations to come.

MONDAY MEETING: Kenyan children’s outreach initiative
May 11, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

We have a visiting guest from Kenya, Peter Nduati, founder and director of iAfrika—an initiative working directly with vulnerable children living on the streets. His work focuses on providing immediate care such as food and shelter, as well as longer-term support including rehabilitation, education, and reintegration into safe environments. While in Australia, he is looking forward to connecting with community-minded organisations such as Rotary that have a strong history of supporting practical, life-changing projects both locally and internationally. We have offered him the opportunity to share a brief presentation about the work being done on the ground in Kenya, and provide insight into the real challenges facing street-connected children. There will be a potential opportunity to create a partnership or project support opportunities with our club. This is a grassroots initiative with clear, tangible impact, and we believe it will resonate strongly with Rotary’s values of service and community.

MONDAY MEETING: Light Sabre Club Battles
May 18, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

Join us in person, or via Zoom video to meet and hear from the two Head Instructors, Monk and Liam Mallinson, who will explain what makes their 'FLOWBAT' Club different and why they exist. How does this relate to Rotary do I hear you ask? Connection and a sense of belonging. We can learn from them and vice versa.

This Club meets in Roma St Parklands every Friday from 6.30 - 8.30pm. Monk and Liam Mallison are coming to our Club to do a demonstration using their real Light Sabres! This is certainly going to be a Club meeting with a difference. Remember one of our Club Values is FUN. Who knows, in the future we may want to go join their Club, and they might want to join ours - depends on how much of a STAR WARS fan you are?

Jun 15, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

Kerry Grace has reached out and is excited to present to our Fellows about Ready Communities which Kerry kicked off Jan 2024. There is a real opportunity for our Rotarians to connect and partner with her organisation's efforts on the ground in regional communities around Australia.

Ready Communities is a not-for-profit org. based in regional Australia (from the regions, for the regions). They take time to understand what really matters, they bring people together to learn, test ideas and to collaborate and then they play with possibility.

Their work is framed by their Readiness Index enabling an ongoing measure of change. To learn more visit this website: https://www.readycommunities.com.au/

R.I. RAFFLE EVENT: Drawn Monday 6 July 2026
Jun 29, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

Recently a handful of our esteemed Club Members travelled to Taipei to attend the Rotary International Annual Conference. They came back with a treasure trove of interesting slices of Rotary History, gifts and sourvenirs (mostly edible I'm told by Keith Watts). We are creating a RAFFLE for your chance to WIN one, or some, of these items. The funds raised will be directed to purchasing mobile camp beds for the homeless to sleep on, rather than sleeping rough.

TICKETS ARE $10 each - AVAILABLE NOW!

If purchasing remotely, please add your mobile number in the reference field when you transfer the funds online.

đŸȘ Brisbane Kite Festival FAMILY DAY
Aug 23, 2026 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Take to the skies at the Brisbane Kite Festival this August 2026 at Minnippi Parklands in Tingalpa. This free family-friendly event features spectacular aerial displays, kite flying, rides, slides, interactive games in the KidZone, food trucks, and community stalls, offering local Brisbane kids and parents a colorful day out. Club Members are invited to bring their families and hang out! Look for our giant red flag! Register so we know who to look out for.

Brisbane Kite Festival 2026

The Brisbane Kite Festival is back in 2026, proudly hosted by the Rotary Club of Brisbane South East and Rotary Club of Carindale, and supported by Brisbane City Council.

Visitors can bring along their own kite or purchase one on the day, with assembly help available and plenty of space to take flight alongside spectacular aerial displays filling the sky with colour and movement. On the ground, the fun continues with family rides and slides, free children’s entertainment including bubbles and games, a KidZone with interactive activities, community stalls, and a great range of food options including food trucks, a sausage sizzle, ice cream, coffee, and cold drinks. Free filtered water will also be available on site.

Admission is free, with a gold coin donation appreciated to help Rotary continue their great work locally and internationally. Visitors are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and picnic rug. Dogs are welcome on leash, though visitors are asked to consider their pet’s comfort given the crowds, and to bring poo bags.

Whether soaring high with a kite or enjoying the fun on the ground, the Brisbane Kite Festival promises a full day of colour, laughter, and community spirit.

Communication regarding Redistricting from Rotary South Pacific

Dear Rotarians,

Over the past few weeks, Andrew Best from RISPPO and I have been corresponding with your district governors regarding the outcomes and next steps for the redistricting of our zone. In some districts, governors have already commenced this process.

I can confirm that the RI Board has officially approved in principle the Zone 8 redistricting proposal, effective 1 July 2028, subject to obtaining club approval for the relevant district mergers. Only clubs in certain districts will participate in this approval process.

Based on July invoicing figures, the following districts will hold a club vote to approve their district plan. Andrew has communicated with these districts separately regarding the voting process and the specific language to use when seeking votes:

9510 9685
9560 9780
9620 9790
9660 9800

Based on the same July invoicing figures, the following districts do not need to hold a club vote:

  - 9423
  - 9640
  - 9675 and 9705
  - 9815 and 9830
  - 9910, 9920, and 9930
  - 9940 and 9999

Districts that do not need to hold a vote can now commence the nomination process for the district governor for the 2028–2029 year. I encourage qualified past presidents to consider seeking nomination and to review the Rotary constitutional documents and code of policies for requirements. Guidelines regarding the roles and responsibilities of the governor have already been forwarded to your district leadership.

A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on Redistricting is available to assist with your queries and a list of the proposed new districts.

If you have further questions that your governor cannot answer, please contact Andrew Best at RISPPO. I look forward to working with your governors, governors-elect, and, in due course, governors-nominee to continue building a stronger Rotary in the South Pacific.

Best regards,

Jennifer Scott

Rotary International Director for Zone 8.
