Dr Dorothy Watts AM.

Dorothy was educated at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School and The University of Queensland. She was a teacher in various secondary schools in Mackay, Rockhampton and Brisbane before taking up an academic position at the University of Queensland in 1990.  She remained there for 17 years as a staff member of the Department of Classics and Ancient History, and also served  a period as Head of Department. In 2003 she received a University of Queensland award for excellence in teaching. In 2016 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to tertiary education, particularly the study of classics and ancient history, as an academic, educator and author. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.

Her research interests focus on Roman and early Britain, especially the Celts. She has written three books, as well as numerous journal articles, on these and related topics.
