On Sunday 13th July, Rtn. Harold B Sandrasagara, Chair of Supporting Adolescents with Autism, Rotary Club of Colombo Reconnections, held their Inaugural Ceremony.

This event specifically targeted parents and caregivers, equipping them with valuable knowledge on early detection, individualised intervention strategies, and the importance of inclusive education for autistic youth.

Creating awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is crucial. Early detection allows for timely intervention, which can significantly improve an autistic individual's quality of life. Additionally, promoting individualized intervention plans acknowledges that autism manifests differently in each person. Finally, fostering inclusive education creates a welcoming environment where autistic students can thrive alongside their peers.

By working together, we can build a more supportive and understanding world for adolescents on the spectrum. Let's continue the conversation and celebrate the unique strengths that autistic individuals bring to our communities!

The Rotary Club of Brisbane has a Sister Club relationship with The Rotary Club of Colombo Reconnections and have supported their initiative by investing in their start up. We wish President Dilanka and Secretary Shelan the very best of success this coming year and will be cheering them on from across the other side of the Indian Ocean.
