National Finals of the Evatt Competition (Rotary Club of Brisbane grant recipient)

Reeve, a 17-year-old student at Brisbane State High School, recently participated in the National Finals of the Evatt Competition in Melbourne, thanks in part to the Rotary Club of Brisbane and it's members' support. This prestigious competition simulates a United Nations Security Council environment, challenging participants to solve international issues and debate international law through diplomacy.
Reeve and his teammate represented Brazil, tackling topics such as wealth inequality in Angola, the pollution of the Mekong River, and prison standards worldwide. Alongside debating, Reeve attended insightful panels with experts in international law and social justice, which inspired him to pursue a career as an intelligence officer in the Australian Air Force.
In his presentation, Reeve will share highlights of the competition, including his debates, interactions with other teams, and the lessons he gained from this transformative experience. He will also reflect on the impact of Rotary’s support in helping him develop critical thinking skills, deepen his understanding of global issues, and explore future career pathways.
We look forward to hearing Reeve's inspiring journey and the insights he has gained from this incredible opportunity.
