Gordon Jardine
The National Electricity Grid in Transition

Summary :  Australia’s electricity supply is transitioning from one dominated by coal-fired power stations to one with more large-scale renewables energy generation. Most of the renewables generation is intermittent ( solar, wind) and this creates stability issues for the transmission grid. The Australian Energy Market Operator ( AEMO) has identified the need for $14 billion investment in the high voltage grid over the next 10 years to strengthen the grid and to extend the grid to new areas where there are potential large scale renewables generation.
